Brief

Design the footwear counterpart to an existing line of Simplifyber’s apparel concepts to further advance and tell the story of Simplifyber’s innovative material.

Ideation

We explored various concepts around the material’s dynamic and durable qualities to propose an upper that challenges the meaning of forefoot flexibility and heel stability.

Execution

We met with Simplifyber and dissected samples of their cellulose material to get an in depth understanding of the materials capabilities. We also constructed initial pullovers to understand the material’s strengths and weaknesses in the real world. Our initial sketches were informed by our understanding of the materials perceived potential based on its current capabilities. We landed on 3 concepts and eventually sampled 2 of the 3.
