Sara Jaramillo sat down with SNKZ Magazine for their Fresh Talks Series to help launch the latest iteration of the New Balance 993 collaboration with JJJJound. Sara was able to share her design process as she seamlessly integrates her mood boards into sketches and sketches into AI & 3D.

Brief
The craft of design is very personal. One of the ways creatives approach design is through mood boards. How do you translate an eye for style into new & compelling designs? Sara Jaramillo was asked to share this process at a sneaker launch in order to give promising designers one way to explore their projects.
Ideation
Sara wanted to share her conceptualization of a project with the audience so she crafted an original concept in order to walk them through her idea, beginning with mood boards that set the direction for the project.
From an understanding of the goals set by the original product brief and the creative inspired by the mood boards, Sara begins her exploration in sketch form to morph the original concept through the lens of each muse.
With her sketching exploration providing a parameters for her concept, Sara can explore the touch and feel of her design by layering existing concepts, product shots, materials and colors in photoshop to compose an aesthetic that easier to relate to in the fashion world. Here is where the mood boards come to life.
Lastly Sara is able to fully render color and material in full form using AI and 3D tools to efficiently bring lifelike qualities to communicate executions to both business/marketing partners to tell the story and engineering/manufacturing partners to build the product to spec.
